“What’s the need of stand by players?” – Twitter reacts as Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar have been named as the Standby Players for the WTC Final

The ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 is not far away from getting underway. As of now, the fans are busy following the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. The IPL carnival comes to a close on May 31.

Post the IPL tournament, Team India will lock horns with Australian cricket team in the second cycle of the ICC WTC Final on June 7 at The Kennington Oval in London. This is the second time that India have reached the WTC Final.

In the previous cycle, India locked horns with the New Zealand cricket team in the final. However, they surrendered at the hands of New Zealand. Kane Williamson and Co defeated Team India by 8 wickets.

Meanwhile, India will be looking forward to beating Australia to win their first ICC WTC title, which will also eventually end their ICC title drought since their last ICC trophy came in 2013 when India beat England to win the Champions Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar have been named as the Standby Players

Both Team India and Australia have top-tier players at their disposal who are capable of turning up in big occasions. It remains to be seen which team will make use of their resources and win the ICC World Test Championship Final.

Meanwhile, in the latest development, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar have been named as the standby players for the ICC World Test Championship Final.

For the record, a standby player is also known as a reserve player, who is picked up as a backup for the main squad just in case if a player gets injured or becomes ill before or during the course of the match.

As a result, the team management selects the standby player who is originally not part of the main squad but is considered to be in good form and is available to play the game for the team if required.
