"When the pressure is there, Lyon will need to stand up" - Dinesh Karthik recalls Lyon was belted by Shreyas Iyer in a tour game

India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik has recalled that veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon was smacked for runs by Shreyas Iyer in a tour game. He further added that Lyon will need to stand up when there is pressure.

Karthik recalled that the off-spinner was tonked for runs by Shreyas Iyer in a tour game before Australia’s 2016/17 Test series in India. Iyer chipped in with an unbeaten 202 off 210 balls in the only Indian innings.

Lyon conceded a staggering 162 runs in 28.5 overs at an economy of 5.61, which was awfully poor among all other Australian bowlers. As per the reports, there will be rank turners for the Test series, which might give Lyon an edge to perform well against India in the BGT series.

The senior wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik echoed that Iyer literally smashed Lyon in a side game in CCI. Moreover, he also added that India have been struggling to play against the off-spin well.

Since the upcoming series is going to be held in India, Karthik said it is important to trust India’s potential to play spin well since it has been part of their heritage over a period of time.

Moreover, he went on to highlight that India have experienced spinners including Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja at their disposal. On the other side of the coin, Australia don’t have that much experience besides Nathan Lyon among spin bowlers.

With Ravichandran Ashwin having Jadeja and Axar to back him up a bit, India will have the extra cushion going forward into the Test series against the Aussies who will be relying on Nathan Lyon to deliver the goods. On the other hand, the likes of Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and Todd Murphy haven’t played too much Test cricket.
