“You tw*t”, the moment when Ben Stokes received a heavy fine for his violent celebration after dismissing James Faulkner

“You tw*t”, the moment when Ben Stokes received a heavy fine for his violent celebration after dismissing James Faulkner

In his role as Test captain for England, all-rounder Ben Stokes has been instrumental in the team’s recent success. The squad has excelled under his guidance since he was named Test captain last year. The English squad has just won the pink-ball Test against New Zealand. They also won the Test series in Pakistan.

Although Stokes has grown into his role as captain, he was much less responsible before. And he has his share of controversy under his belt as well. When Stokes assaulted a bystander on the ground outside a Bristol club, he was fined and banned.

Another time Stokes lost his temper was in an ODI match against Australia at Perth’s WACA Stadium in 2014. After his violent celebration against Australian all-rounder James Faulkner, he was hit with a fine.

Ben Stokes brought out a vigorous celebration against James Faulkner

When at the crease for Australia, James Faulkner seemed to be having a rough time. Faulkner was dismissed caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler after he gave an easy catch while attempting to play a cut shot against Stokes on a ground that helped the pacers. Just 2 runs were scored by him in 11 balls.

Stokes was overjoyed with the decision and offered a harsh farewell to the Australian all-rounder; his words “You tw*t” were plainly heard and he was subsequently chastised for them. He was charged with breaking the ICC’s Rules of Conduct, specifically 2.1.4. To the tune of 15% of his match pay, he was penalized for the same infraction.

England sailed to a comfortable 57-run victory, and Stokes was named Man of the Match for his efforts. During England’s first innings, Stokes contributed 70 runs to the team’s total of 316. Even with an outstanding stint from Stokes (9-1-38-4), Australia only managed to score 259 runs.
