"And then Shaheen Afridi will be captain", Twitter reacts as Shahid Afridi will be the interim chairman of National selection committee of Pakistan

As we all know by now, Ramiz Raja, the former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board was discharged from his duties two days ago on a notification issued by the Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. In Pakistan, the Prime Minister is the patron-in-chief of their supreme cricket board and he has the power of taking such decisions.

Ramiz Raja was PCB’s 36th Chairman and the fourth ex-player to hold the post. He was appointed by former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who also used to be their ex-captain and has great cricketing knowledge. It is this being said that the decision to remove Ramiz Raja from his post is totally political. However, the governing party has claimed that the decision was taken after Pakistan’s humiliating 3-0 whitewash in the recently played Test series against England on their own home turf.

Ramiz Raja was heavily criticized by former Pakistani players and cricket analysts for the way he handled the situation about the nation’s dead pitches – most recently in the Test series between Pakistan and England. Shahid Afridi, another former Pakistan captain, was one of the most notable figures to bash him back then. Coincidentally, it is now being reported that Shahid Afridi will be made the interim Chairman of PCB.

Initially, it was being thought that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will appoint Najam Sethi as the chairman of PCB but apparently that move has been delayed. After Shahid Afridi’s interim tenure gets over, he might be made one of the chief members in his council. It is thus being said that Shahid Afridi has now become one of the chief contenders to become PCB’s chairman in near future. More news about Shahid Afridi’s tenure will follow shortly.

The notification to dismiss Ramiz Raja came shortly after Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand test series (in Pakistan) was announced.
