“He will have to fight for a spot in the playing XI” – Sanjay Bangar makes a bold comment on star Indian batter

KL Rahul

KL Rahul took a major role in Indian cricket during India’s tour of Bangladesh very recently. He served as the captain of the Indian cricket team in Rohit Sharma’s absence in the third and final ODI at Chattogram.

Besides that, he also led the team from the front for the two-match Test series against the Tigers. Under his captaincy, India won all three games and also inflicted a 2-0 whitewash on the Tigers in the Test series.

Although he did pretty well as captain but questions were raised about his form and that he is not leading the batting attack by example. With plenty of young cricketers including Quinton de Kock and Shubman Gill already waiting in the wings, KL Rahul should consider upping his ante or else he might lose his place in the playing XI.

Sanjay Bangar makes a bold remark on KL Rahul

Former Team India’s batting coach, Sanjay Bangar stressed the fact that KL Rahul will have to fight for a spot in the playing XI. KL Rahul is not part of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the Sri Lankan national cricket team.

The right-handed batter has been listed as the wicketkeeper-batsman for Sri Lanka ODIs. India will play three T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka, with the first T20I slated to be played on January 3 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

While speaking to Star Sports, former India’s batting coach, Sanjay Bangar highlighted that Ishan Kishan has done incredibly well at the top of the order, which means that Lokesh Rahul will have to step up and deliver the goods to fight for his spot in the starting XI.

Sanjay Bangar also reckons KL Rahul might be dropped from the starting XI for now in the ODI series after Hardik Pandya has been named the vice-captain of the Indian ODI set-up.
