“There is still no clarity regarding his exclusion from the T20 squad” – Virat Kohli’s childhood coach talks about the star’s exclusion from Sri Lanka T20Is

Virat Kohli

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh national cricket team. The right-handed batter failed to bring the best out of himself in the entire series as he failed to score a fifty or a century.

Recently, he ended his ODI century drought after 40 months by scoring his 44th ODI century. However, he failed to end his Test century drought and the last time he scored a Test century was back in 2019 during a pink-ball Test affair against Bangladesh.

India’s run-scoring machine will be next seen in action for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting on January 10. In fact, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were not named in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli’s childhood coach talks about the star’s exclusion from Sri Lanka T20Is

Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma opened up his views on Virat Kohli’s exclusion from Sri Lanka T20Is during an interview with India News Sports. Virat Kohli was in surreal form in the shortest format of the game for Team India in this calendar year.

He finished the Asia Cup 2022 tournament as the leading run-getter for Team India with 276 runs in 5 games including two half-centuries and a century. Besides that, he finished the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as the leading run-getter with 296 runs including four half-centuries.

Despite being in scintillating form in the truncated version of the game, Kohli was not included in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka. Talking about the same, Rajkumar echoed that there is still no clarity about Kohli’s exclusion from the T20 squad.

He further added that there is no idea whether Kohli is dropped or rested as the Indian team management hasn’t given any official confirmation regarding the same. It seems that the BCCI wants the senior cricketers to focus on the ODIs, considering that the ICC ODI World Cup is slated to be held in India in 2023.
