“How ridiculously good is Surya”, Twitter reacts as Suryakumar Yadav scored 3 centuries in just 43 innings

Today in Rajkot, India’s Suryakumar Yadav hit his third T20I century, this time against Sri Lanka. Starting at 52 for two in the PowerPlay, Suryakumar blasted a century off of only 45 balls. Suryakumar added 77 runs to the 111-run partnership for the third wicket with Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill got out for 46 runs off 34 balls.

The 32-year-old batsman reached the century mark in the 19th over with a single, his maiden century in the format at the home ground. He scored 112 runs without being out off 51 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes, as India set a formidable 228 for five in 20 overs.

Suryakumar hit his first T20I century in July of last year, against England in Nottingham. He went on to have a great 2022, scoring 1,164 runs in 31 innings.

On India’s limited-overs visit to New Zealand last November, Suryakumar smashed an unbeaten 111 off 51 deliveries.

Suryakumar has three or more T20I centuries, making him one of just five batters to do so. The list includes Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar, Glenn Maxwell (3), Colin Munro (3), and Sabawoon Davizi (3). Suryakumar joined Maxwell as the only batter to score a century in a Twenty20 International match on three separate continents.

This is the second-fastest hundred by an Indian, behind Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball effort against the same opponent in Indore in 2017.
