The 18-man ODI squad for the three-match series against Australia was published by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday, and it was revealed that India skipper Rohit Sharma would miss the first ODI owing to family obligations.

Although Hardik Pandya, India’s regular vice-captain, will lead the team in the first match of the series, Rohit will take over as captain for the last two games. India and Australia will meet in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) in Mumbai, Vizag, and Chennai.

“Mr. Rohit Sharma will be unavailable for the first ODI due to family commitments and Mr. Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the first ODI,” BCCI tweeted.

As the last two Tests against Australia came around, Jaydev Undakat was brought back into the fold after being dropped off the team for the Ranji Trophy. The skipper of Saurashtra has also made his way back into the ODI lineup after an absence of nine years. The Test squads have not altered since Unadkat’s comeback.

Despite his dismal play in the first two Tests, vice-captain and opener KL Rahul will continue to represent India in the next matches in Indore and Ahmedabad. Management and the board do not want to hurry Bumrah’s comeback, hence he did not make either squad.
