“Have a cheekoo shake for recovery before sleeping” – When Yuvraj Singh complimented Virat Kohli for his spectacular inning against Sri Lanka in 2012 in Hobart

"Have a cheekoo shake for recovery before sleeping" - When Yuvraj Singh complimented Virat Kohli for his spectacular inning against Sri Lanka in 2012 in Hobart

The Indian cricket team had a disappointing tour to Australia in 2011–12, failing to make it to the final of the tri-series that included Australia, India, and Sri Lanka. But cricket fans can’t stop thinking about Virat Kohli’s knock in Hobart against Sri Lanka.

This day in 2012 marks the day Virat Kohli played a spectacular inning. The ODI between India and Sri Lanka was being played in Hobart’s Blundstone Arena, and the Indian squad needed a victory by a bonus point to keep their tri-series hopes alive. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 320 runs for four wickets, including centuries from both Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan.

India needed a victory in under 40 overs to ensure their participation in the competition. Virender Sehwag got things going quickly, but he was eventually dismissed. After losing their first two wickets for 86 runs, the Indian squad recovered thanks to a great partnership between Kohli and Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir, which ultimately resulted in 115 runs.

The innings Kohli batted was one of his greatest; at the time, Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga was at the height of his powers, but seeing Kohli smash him to pieces was a sight to behold. He hit 133* in only 86 balls, smashing 16 fours and 2 sixes to annihilate the bowlers. India’s win in 36.4 overs kept their series chances alive.

The former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also commented on Kohli’s innings in Adelaide, and his tweet was both humorous and effusive. As “Cheeku” is a nickname for Kohli, Singh suggested that he recuperate with a “Cheeku (fruit) shake” following Kohli’s brilliant century. While Kohli did his best, India was eliminated as Australia lost to Sri Lanka in the final league encounter.

The friendship between Kohli and Singh was strong, and the two were teammates in the 2011 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy. They have both been seen bopping along to Punjabi tunes.
