“I was sledging his catching” – Mark Waugh tears into Virat Kohli after his slip catching woes

Mark Waugh, a former Australian cricketer, is considered a superb slip catcher. Recently, he gave his candid assessment of Indian cricket player Virat Kohli‘s latest slip-catching performance.

Waugh was on live with Star Sports to discuss how Kohli might fix his technique after he dropped a few catches in the first two Tests of the current Border-Gavaskar tournament. As he put it:

Waugh made it plain to Fox Cricket that his comments had nothing to do with Virat Kohli’s performance at the batting crease in Tests. In the wake of his 44-run effort in the second innings of the second Test in Delhi, he said that he had seen echoes of Kohli’s vintage best.

What did Mark Waugh say about Virat Kohli?

He said: “I think his feet are too wide apart. His weight is often on the back of his heels rather than on his feet. Sometimes, he looks like he is not expecting the ball. He has got to be expecting the ball every single delivery.”

He added: “I wasn’t sledging his batting. I was sledging his catching, which he did improve actually. He worked hard on it. But I cannot believe that Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a century in 39 innings. He is a great player so he is not used to not scoring runs but I did feel like that in Delhi he was getting back to his best.”

Fox Cricket featured a panel discussion with Mark Waugh and former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin. He also shared his thoughts on the recent reports of Virat Kohli’s resurgence in Test form.

In the third Test against Australia in Indore, Kohli showed signs of his best form once again. After scoring 22 runs in the first inning, he was out after being caught in front by Todd Murphy and then Matthew Kuhnemann in the second inning for 13.

In the last Test of the series in Ahmedabad, it will be intriguing to watch whether Kohli can finally end his century drought.
