“I feel this half-century might get converted into a double hundred” – Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli to make it big on the fourth day

"I feel this half-century might get converted into a double hundred" - Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli to make it big on the fourth day

Sunil Gavaskar believes Virat Kohli will make a century in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test.

Day 3 of the match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium finished with India at 289/3 with Kohli still not out on 59. Before the start of the fourth day, the home side is still 191 runs behind Australia despite having seven first-inning wickets in hand.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say about Virat Kohli?

During a discussion on Star Sports, Gavaskar opined that Virat Kohli might convert his fifty into a massive three-figure score, elaborating: “The best thing is the way Virat Kohli came and scored a half-century after seeing the pitch’s behaviour. I feel this half-century might get converted into a double hundred and if that happens, it means India would have taken a lead from Australia and have a chance to win the match. When someone is hungry and has not got much to eat and is getting something to eat, why should he leave it? He has not scored a century in the last few years, so the best way to make up for it is by scoring 250.”

In the pink-ball Test against Bangladesh in November 2019, Kohli hit his final century in the longest format. After his century, he has scored 1087 runs for an unimpressive 27.17 average in 24 matches.

The third-wicket stand between Kohli and Shubman Gill (128) was worth 58 runs before Gill was trapped in front of the wicket. For the fourth wicket, the former Indian captain and Ravindra Jadeja (16 not out) had put up 44 runs.
