“First you rest from the team for a few matches and set a example cuz you are the captain” – Twitter erupts as Rohit Sharma expresses doubts whether the Indian players will rest themselves in the IPL

The Indian team lost the home ODI series against Australia 1-2. In the 50-over format, this was India’s first home series loss since 2019. After a 1-1 series deadlock following the second ODI, the Kangaroos played their best in the series-deciding match on March 22 in Chennai, amassing a respectable 269 runs. Nevertheless, the Men in Blue were bowled out for 248 with five balls to spare during the chase.

Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian team, addressed the media after the team’s poor performance in one-day internationals contributed to a loss of the series. Before the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, the star batter also addressed the worries of workload management.

As a matter of importance, Indian players have a busy schedule ahead of them between IPL and the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia on June 7. In addition, India will play host to the ODI World Cup later this year.

When asked whether there will be an emphasis on workload management during the IPL, Rohit said there would be. The 35-year-old did note, though, that the Indian team’s administration has raised concerns about the players’ fitness levels, and that ultimately the choice rests with the franchisees. He also stressed the need for the players to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to perform at their best.

After then, Rohit Sharma discussed the team’s injury woes. The 35-year-old acknowledged that the team’s absence of top talent is a huge setback, but he added that everyone is doing their best to help. He also spilled the beans that the team’s management had settled on a roster of 15 players for the ODI World Cup in a few months.

Rohit Sharma said “I doubt if any player will take a break during IPL, it’s all up to franchises, they own them now but we have given some indications & more importantly it’s up to players as if they feel they are getting too much, they can take a break for 1 or 2 games”.
