The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League kick-started at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as Chennai Super Kings are locking horns with Gujarat Titans in the tournament opener.

Gujarat Titans were the champions of the IPL 2022 edition as they beat Rajasthan Royals in the final to win their maiden title in their debut season. Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. Chennai Super Kings stuck to the same opening pair (Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway). Gujarat Titans got off to a brilliant start to the game in the form of Mohammed Shami.

The veteran paceman stuck to the subtle bowling variation of good line and length and reaped rewards. He went on to make a complete mess of Conway’s stumps that went flying. The video clip of Shami cleaning up Conway’s stumps has gone viral.

Decon Conway tried to attack Shami but paid the price straight away. The New Zealand batter didn’t look comfortable from the word go as he looked a bit nervous. He played five balls and scored a run before he was dismissed in his sixth delivery.

After getting the better of Conway in the second ball of the third over, Mohammed Shami brought up his 100th wicket in the Indian Premier League. Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad straightaway mounted pressure on the opposition by letting their willows do the talking.

Gaikwad is batting on 24 off 13 including three fours and a six. Moeen Ali was dismissed by Rashid Khan in the fifth ball of the sixth over. While trying to play a shot, he got an outside edge as Wriddhiman Saha took a sharp catch behind the stumps. At the time of writing this article, Chennai Super Kings scored 51/2 in six overs.
