“Wayne good selection though” – Twitter reacts as Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijay Kumar have replaced Reece Topley and Rajat Patidar for RCB in IPL 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Faf du Plessis kick-started their IPL 2023 campaign with a win over five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB won the game by eight wickets and opened their account in style. However, the same energy and dynamism were completely missing when they locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders last night.

RCB bowlers raised their bar by keeping KKR in check by removing half of their batting unit. However, they failed to extend their dominance beyond that as the likes of Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh changed the game completely.

KKR posted 204/7 in 20 overs with the help of Shardul Thakur’s 68 off 29 and Rinku Singh’s 46 off 33 balls. RCB were bowled out for 123 runs in the run-chase as they went on to lose the game by 81 runs.

Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijay Kumar join RCB in IPL 2023

Meanwhile, in the latest development, Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijay Kumar have replaced Reece Topley and Rajat Patidar for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023.

The IPL mentioned in a statement that Reece Topley sustained a shoulder injury while fielding during RCB’s opening game of this edition against Mumbai Indians. It is to be noted that Rajat Patidar didn’t turn up for RCB’s first game against Mumbai Indians owing to a heel injury.

The statement further added that Rajat Patidar has not recovered yet from the injury. As a result, he has been ruled out of the 16th edition of the tournament. Apart from Patidar, Reece Topley has also been ruled out of the tournament.

Parnell has been a decent performer for South Africa in Twenty20 Internationals. Having played 56 T20Is, he took 59 wickets to his name. He has played 26 IPL matches and took 26 wickets.

He joined Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 75 lakh. On the contrary, Patidar’s replacement Vyashak Vijay Kumar plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket. Having played 14 T20s, he took 22 wickets to his name. He has joined RCB for INR 20 lakh.
