"This has been possible only under MS Dhoni's captaincy", Sunil Gavaskar points out a unique trait in MS Dhoni's captaincy

In the buildup to Monday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 showdown between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has reserved high accolades for MS Dhoni. Dhoni, the iconic commander of the Yellow Brigade, is battling a niggle but is expected to lead CSK in their next IPL 2023 encounter against the RCB. The match will take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Dhoni and company have arrived in Bengaluru for the first Southern Derby of the new season, having won the league four times in a row. Dhoni, one of the best players in cricket history, just made his 200th appearance for his Chennai franchise in the Indian Premier League. As CSK prepared to play RCB on the road, batting great Gavaskar heaped admiration on the Chennai captain, saying that he had never seen a leader like Dhoni.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say about MS Dhoni?

“Chennai Super Kings know how to get out of tough situations. This has been possible only under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Captaining 200 matches is very difficult. Captaining so many matches is a burden and it could have affected his performance as well. But Mahi is different. He is a different captain. There hasn’t been a captain like him and there will never be one like him in the future,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Dhoni, who has guided CSK to four consecutive IPL championships, set a new milestone in Chennai’s last match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 41-year-old made history as the first captain to lead his team to 200 matches in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni, who has more IPL caps than any other player, made his debut that year at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium against the PBKS.

Dhoni is a veteran of almost 213 games as a skipper in the lucrative league. The former Indian captain reached 5,000 runs in the Indian Premier League earlier this season. The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman has become the eighth player in the history of the world’s richest Twenty20 competition to reach 5,000 runs. Dhoni has led CSK to a 2-2 record in their four matches this season, putting them in sixth position.
