Why Anrich Nortje will not play for Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in IPL 2023?

The Arun Jaitley Stadium match between the Delhi Capitals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore will go on without fast bowler Anrich Nortje. An official statement sent to the franchise’s social media accounts that afternoon confirmed the news.

So far in the Indian Premier League 2023, Nortje has been in eight of Delhi’s nine games and has taken seven wickets at an average of 40.71 with an economy rate of 8.9 and a strike rate of 27.42.

Nortje has been one of DC’s most important pacers since his IPL debut in 2020, so it will be intriguing to see where he is slotted in DC’s playing XI. If we’re talking about direct replacements, one of Mustafizur Rahman or Lungi Ngidi may get a shot on a Saturday night in the nation’s capital. Unlike Rahman, who has already appeared in a few games this year, Ngidi has yet to make his debut.

It’s worth noting that Nortje has flown back to South Africa to deal with an urgent family matter. Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler for the Delhi Capitals, had to return to his native South Africa on Friday night due to a family issue. The team announced that he will not be playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore this evening.

Nortje is the second foreign player in the current 16th season of the IPL to return home for family reasons, after Bangladesh and Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das.

It remains to be seen whether Nortje will be available for Delhi’s encounter against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday since the team has not released any official information on his comeback. The David Warner-led team is suffering mightily in the standings and wouldn’t want to play many games without a first-choice player like Nortje.
